Birgit Schäfers - Krank durch Brustimplantate Wir helfen e.V. After significant weight loss (obesity since childhood), Birgit Schäfers received breast implants in 2010. Four years later, her body began to deteriorate gradually, eventually leaving her bedridden. It took another two and a half years before she realized—through a U.S. awareness group on Facebook—that the implants were the cause. During explant surgery, one of the implants was completely dissolved. The consultation regarding explantation had been dishonest. Despite many detox attempts, Birgit remained ill and is now severely disabled. In 2018, she founded the German-language project “Krank durch Brustimplantate.” Together with a small team, she has already been able to help many thousands of women. Since fall 2021, the project has been a registered nonprofit and charitable association, raising awareness through its support group, podcast channel, website, counseling calls, and highly active public outreach via TV, radio, magazines, newspapers, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and online platforms. Birgit gives interviews, connects affected women, speaks with surgical associations and the German Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM), organizes doctor-patient events, and distributes flyers and posters to clinics. She co-authored the book “Toxic Boobs.” The organization “Krank durch Brustimplantate - Wir helfen e.V.” is especially proud that it can also provide financial assistance to women without means, making explant surgery possible for them. Birgit has been a guest on talk shows, numerous podcasts, and has spoken at a surgeons’ congress as well as a holistic health fair. There are already more than 50 reports and over 70 podcast episodes featuring affected women, scientists, lawyers, surgeons, holistic practitioners, and many others. Her heart and soul are dedicated to the largest and most active German-speaking patient organization for breast implants. They speak German and English. If needed other translations can be offered in phone calls. Birgit, Robyn and Terri are connected for a long time now. GPAC supported her in many zoom calls with German organizations.
