In October 2021, the FDA required all breast implant manufacturers to provide a patient checklist that includes their complication rates. This chart that we created shows just a few of the most common complications from the manufacturer checklists and the SSED’s (FDA Summary of Safety and Effectiveness Data).

This should be discussed with every patient who is considering breast implants for augmentation or breast reconstruction. Most patients and even many physicians are unaware. Informed consent is a discussion, a process in which the physician should share the risks and benefits with patients. Patients deserve to have this information to make an educated and informed decision.
